Is there a better way to celebrate FFA Week than to prepare 35,640 meals for the needy?
The Willow Lake High School auditorium was the site last Thursday morning as 55 Willow Lake FFA members, FFA state officers and a FFA national officer, along with community members, packed all these meals for Kids Against Hunger.

Clark opt-out public meeting is March 4

The Clark School Board is scheduling a public meeting for Monday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym. The purpose of this meeting will be to inform the residents of Clark School District 12-2 that plans are going forward with an opt-out to the tax freeze for 2013-2014.

Webster School Board discusses four-day week

At the regular monthly meeting of the Webster Area School Board on Feb. 11, a discussion was held about the four-day week.
Superintendent Jim Block put together a chart of South Dakota schools who are four-day and listed their calendar hours. Of the 38 schools in the state, Webster Area is listed as 31st for the amount of instruction time spent with students.

Faulkton educator addresses violent video games and their consequences

Recently, we had the opportunity as an elementary staff to view a presentation entitled “Love and Logic” by Dr. Charles Fay.
Dr. Fay is a psychologist who works with parents and educators on managing challenging behaviors in children. One of the topics Dr. Fay covers in his presentations is kids’ love of video games.

Faulkton student’s work against obesity attracts film crew

Kyle Ortmeier brought a few guests to school with him on Friday, Jan. 25: a documentary film crew. Ortmeier will be part of a big-name documentary discussing the national pandemic childhood obesity. Katie Couric of CBS News and Laurie David, producer of “An Inconvenient Truth,” are co-producers on the project.
