Groton Rubble Site to get new entrance gate

Clark School going forward with tax freeze opt-out proposal

A public meeting was held March 4 at the Clark High School gym to discuss the proposed opt-out of the tax freeze for the 2013-2014 school budget.

Day County may see first population rise in 90 years

Day County is no stranger to the epidemic sweeping through the Midwest, known as Rural Flight. The county has consistently lost population for the past 90 years. But according to a 2011 estimate, the area is looking at its first increase in population since 1920. The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 population estimates Webster and Day County have increased half a percent since the 2010 national census.

Rural churches struggle for survival

Shrinking population is just one of many factors that are coming into play for the struggles of rural area churches. In addition to a smaller populace, roads, travel conditions and church attendance becoming less and less of a priority for many, rural churches are especially feeling the pinch.

A few months back, the Director of Nursing at the Faulkton Area Medical Center and the director of the Faulk County Ambulance Service, Tom Hericks, began a program to get EMT certification courses available to be taken over the internet.

Willow Lake businesses benefit from new revolving loan fund

Three businesses in Willow Lake have been awarded low-interest loans from a new Business Development Fund created by Willow Lake Area Advancement. Gunners Back When, The Rusty Nail and Tony’s Electric have each been awarded $3,000 under the program designed to assist new or expanding businesses in southern Clark County.
