A rooster checked in at the office of the Faulk County Record on Thursday, Feb. 28. Kurt Holt came into the office with the news and Garrick Moritz quickly grabbed a camera to snap a few photos before the bird decided that the Record’s roof would be a safer place to hide than the sidewalk.

LaMoure County land rent rises from $7,800 to $11,500

The LaMoure County Commissioners opened bids at the March 5 meeting for the rental of 150 acres of county-owned land. After the bidding was done, they had rented out that 150 acres for $11,500.

“I don’t know if it was the dry weather last year or what, but in talking to other breeders at the farm show this year, we’ve all noticed a lot more single births this year with our herds. We usually have about 50 percent of our births being twins, but this year only about one third of them are twin births,” stated Wayne Fuller of Clark.

Groton Rubble Site to get new entrance gate

Groton has been battling abuse of the rubble site for the past several years. Each year the city gets inspected by the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources; this past year, it barely passed its inspection.

Clark School going forward with tax freeze opt-out proposal

A public meeting was held March 4 at the Clark High School gym to discuss the proposed opt-out of the tax freeze for the 2013-2014 school budget.
With approximately 75 interested patrons in attendance, the Clark School Board, through the school’s administration, presented the financial picture of the district, and then answered the questions from the public.

Day County may see first population rise in 90 years

Day County is no stranger to the epidemic sweeping through the Midwest, known as Rural Flight. The county has consistently lost population for the past 90 years. But according to a 2011 estimate, the area is looking at its first increase in population since 1920. The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 population estimates Webster and Day County have increased half a percent since the 2010 national census.

EMT pilot internet training course going well

A few months back, the Director of Nursing at the Faulkton Area Medical Center and the director of the Faulk County Ambulance Service, Tom Hericks, began a program to get EMT certification courses available to be taken over the internet.
