A church history states that the Gothic-style First Baptist Church in Ipswich went up after charter member Leota Beebe offered to page two-thirds of the $25,000 cost of a new building. The membership then pledged $11,000, plus the men of the church did much of the labor. The church was dedicated in 1926.
