Go Local Business of the Week: Knotty Gnome Variety & Salvage, LLC

Knotty Gnome Variety & Salvage located in Hartford, SD has been selected as the first Go Local Business of the Week. Owned by Kyle and Stacey Wengler, this shop is the perfect place to find exclusive wood and steel projects to create a stunning environment.

Knotty Gnome Variety & Salvage works with the best regional craft makers to offer an assortment of handcrafted items. This shop has it all: ranging from indoor and outdoor home décor to clothing and accessories to natural toiletries. Some of the pieces have been repurposed by the owners themselves.

“We specialize in custom home décor and small furniture. Everything we make is one of a kind and waiting for the perfect home to go to,” said owner, Stacy Wengler.

The shop was inspired by a love of thrift store shopping, auction hunting, and visits to flea markets. Kyle and Stacy found a passion in retrieving wood and steel pieces from old farms and estates, visualizing the transformation, and refining every detail.

Stacy mentioned, “No matter where we are we are always looking for the next thing to transform.”

After years of attending art shows and coordinating pop-up markets, Kyle and Stacy decided to open a storefront location. This gave them the opportunity to offer a better selection of custom made works their consumers and the space to have a Do It Yourself Studio for hosting craft lessons.

The Wengler’s believe an appreciation for handmade products is resurfacing and consumers are recognizing the outstanding quality associated with the higher cost.

When asked about the importance of shopping locally, Stacy said, “Each of the small local businesses in our community represent a local family. This business now drives the income for our entire family. Without the support from the community we would not be able to provide for our family, it is as simple as that! We love the Hartford and the surrounding communities and appreciate all of the support they have given us in our first 6 months of business!”

The products found at Knotty Gnome Variety & Salvage are constantly changing to adapt to new styles and seasons. Currently the vendors featured in their shop are on a three month rotation, so there is always something new to see. Plan your visit today to find a wonderful addition to your home!
