Timely maintenance saves money

It costs about three times as much to maintain a road in fair condition as it does a road in excellent condition. This means that the goal of good maintenance is to do repairs early enough in a paved road’s life to keep it in excellent condition, which lessens the need for for expensive repairs. (The only reason a road in poor condition costs less is because managers have given up on restoring it.)
