Economic development is a crucial part of sustaining our rural communities. Communities and volunteers are both needed to work together to keep the local economy vibrant and growing.

South Dakota Community of the Year and Excellence in Economic Development awards seek nominations

Economic development is a crucial part of sustaining our rural communities. Communities and volunteers are both needed to work together to keep the local economy vibrant and growing.

The public is encouraged to nominate communities and volunteers that have gone above and beyond the call of duty in finding local economic development solutions for the following awards.

The Community of the Year award is presented each year to a community that has demonstrated leadership in the area of economic development. One large community (5,000 or more) and one small community (less than 5,000) will be chosen. Each award winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize to be used for an economic development project.

The Excellence in Economic Development award recognizes on South Dakotan who has volunteered their time and energy to economic development making our state a better place to work and live. A $2,000 cash prize will be award to the award recipient’s respective community.

These awards will be presented at the 2014 Governor’s Economic Development Conference in Sioux Falls, April 15-16, 2014.
