BDA Home Designs visualizes new home or remodel projects

By Char Telkamp, Groton Independent

One of the hardest things about planning a new house or a remodeling job is visualizing what it will look like in the end. That’s where BDA Home Designs and Brock Abeln can help.

Abeln started his new company a year ago, but has long had an interest in the building trade. He worked with Dick Seurer while growing up and took classes with Don Donley in high school. At one time he had aspirations of attending college to be an architect. All that changed the summer of 2003 when an accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.

“It took me a few years (after the accident) to figure out what I wanted to do,” Abeln said. “Not all the areas that I was interested in would allow me to do it from a wheelchair.”

With the help of Vocational Rehab in Aberdeen, Abeln was able to get the special equipment he needed to start up BDA Home Designs. The professional grade software and special tools, such as voice activation and a track ball mouse that allows Abeln to use a mouth tool to move objects around on the computer screen, permits Abeln to design the blueprints on the computer screen. Once the design is completed, Abeln can print off the blueprints, as well as a complete materials list. When working with a lumber yard, Abeln can also get the prices of the materials and give the homeowner an estimate of the cost for a specific remodeling project.

“With the help of 3D technology,” Brock Abeln said. “We can help you visualize what the design concept will look like when it is completed.”

BDA Home Designs uses professional software to provide homeowners with quality construction blueprints. They work with you to help you get exactly what you want out of your new home, remodel, addition, etc. They provide a variety of skills and can handle multiple types of projects depending on the situation and the needs of the client, from the initial consultation to the completion of your home.

Abeln can offer the homeowner several different views to help with the visualization. He can offer floor plans, kitchen views, bathroom views, interior and exterior views, plot views and 3D and 2D renderings of your designs.

Call or email BDA Home Designs to discuss your thoughts on a home design or addition for a solution that is best for you. Abeln is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1pm to 7pm and Monday and Thursday from 5pm to 7pm. Weekend appointments are also available. He can be reached at bdahomedesigns@nvc.net or at 605-397-4480. Samples of his designs are also available on the website http://www.bdahomedesigns.net/index.html.

“Come in or call for a free consultation,” Abeln said. “Don’t be afraid to ask for a demonstration.”
