Local destinations along East/West routes to the RuralX Summit

The 2017 RuralX Summit is fast approaching and if you plan to attend, it’s possible that you will pass through a few communities along the way to Aberdeen. Why not make the most of your time and see what these towns have to offer? Whether you’re traveling east or west, we’ve highlighted the best locations to engage in some local fun!

Traveling from the East?

If your trail to Aberdeen starts in the east, it will be worthwhile to break in Ortonville, MN. Lingonberry’s Pastry & Coffee Shop has delicious pastries and lunch if you’re in need of a snack. Otherwise, make it a quick stop for a hot coffee or espresso.

Next up on the map, you might pass through Milbank. If so, stop and smell the roses at the Milbank Flower Shoppe. Select from a range of flowers, plants, and home décor.

When driving through Waubay, pause for a moment at the Jorgenson Meat Store. Founded in 1989, this store and locker has excellent jerky and other meat products that can curb your appetite on your way to the RuralX Summit.

Stop in Webster for a lesson in history at the Museum of Wildlife, Science, & Industry. The museum brings the past into the present by displaying preserved household items, vintage clothing, private collections, antique tractors, and classic cars. It also features a fascinating wildlife collection. You won’t want to drive past this intriguing museum!

Then consider shopping in Groton at the Karma Salon & Boutique. You may not have an appointment to freshen up, but the boutique has plenty to offer, including great styles in clothing, accessories, and home décor. Another notable attraction in Groton is the Olde Bank Floral ‘N More which offers unique flower arrangements as well as gorgeous home décor, jewelry, Dark Canyon Coffee and a superb selection of wine.

Traveling from the West?

If your adventure takes you through Eureka, be sure to stop and shop for a while. The Hometown Boutique offers fresh floral arrangements mixed with a variety of house plants. Also, keep an eye out for unique home décor items. Another fun stop is the Eureka Thrift Store, which contains a great assortment of clothes and miscellaneous items. You might get lucky and spot something you didn’t know you needed.

Pump the brakes in Hoven for an additional place to spend time shopping, the Treasure Hut. This store provides consignment items ranging from clothes to books to kitchenware. You never know what kind of hidden treasures you might find at this locally owned shop, so what are you waiting for?

Be sure to stop in Roscoe for a bite to eat at Ricky’s Restaurant & Lounge. This small-town restaurant and bar will provide you with great food and service while you pass through.

Just before you reach Aberdeen you should view Amber Waves Floral in Ipswich. This full-service flower shop offers a wide selection of fresh flowers, framed art, and other gifts.
