Center for Rural Entrepreneurship surveys Faulkton students

Faulk County Record
About 75% of the Faulkton High School student body recently took part in a survey conducted by Craig Schroeder from the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship from Lincoln, Neb.

Initial survey results indicated that the vast majority of FHS students planned to attend either a technical college or a four-year college or university after graduating, with a small percentage expressing a desire to go straight into the workforce or directly into military service. Most of these students plan to enter the ag field, but others wished to pursue careers in education or applied sciences.

The majority of the students surveyed felt their community was an excellent place to live as a youth, but 18% felt the opposite way. A majority of the students felt they would like to live locally after graduating and indicated they had strong family ties to the area, but a slight majority of students agreed also that they could make more money elsewhere. A significant majority felt that the area offered too few shopping options and a lack of entertainment options.

Superintendent Joel Price, in his recent Superintendent’s report, said that most of this came as no surprise to him, but that the last point Schroeder made was that a significant majority of students said that they were willing to help if they were asked to get involved to make the community better, but that few adults ever bothered to ask them for that help. Price said that means that’s somthing that the school and the community should do a better job with in the future.
